Hurricane Wilma in Naples

Here is a pic sent in by a Naples resident. Alot of the palm trees are now left bare due to this storm.

Uprooted Trees

This picture was sent in to a local TV station in Miami showing how strong this hurricane was. Trees that had been around for years and withstood previous hurricanes, were entirely uprooted from the ground and in alot of places took the concrete up with it. Notice the couple standing in the picture and how large this really is.

Miami After Wilma

Hurricane Wilma

By now you all know of Hurricane Wilma that struck Southern Florida on Monday of this week and you have seen pictures of the damage and devastation that was done. My friends at Tigerhomes Sanctuary suffered major damage as well. I hope to have pictures up soon, so please keep checking back with me. This is a privately owned animal sanctuary down in Southern Florida and is home to over 100 animals, including Tigers, Lemurs, Lions, Leopards, and many more. Many of the habitats were destroyed and the landscaping has been majorly destroyed. The person who owns this place has put his heart, soul, and his whole life into this place and always puts the animals needs above his own. He works several jobs just to keep the place running and of course, from donations from people like you and me. His grounds were damaged during Katrina and he had been rebuilding and replanting since then and still had lots of work to do, so when Hurricane Wilma hit, this was the last thing he needed. The sanctuary is located out in a rural area, so they are being told that it may be Mid-November or later before their power is restored and this really doesn't help matters any. What I am doing is helping raise donations for this Sanctuary and for the animals and the owner. This man is one of the greatest and most caring individuals I have ever come across and I really would not be helping him if I did think it was a worthy cause. I encourage anyone reading this to check out the website for Tigerhomes at www.tigerhomes.org . They have multiple webcams, which are down for now and may be for some time due to hurricane damage, but there are many other pages you can visit such as the educational pages, the webviewer gallery and they have a forum that is open to discussion on the many animal issues that are out there. There is a page where you can go to make secure donations or they even accept checks and money orders. I encourage you to check out this site and please send a donation, whether it be $5 or $500, every bit is deeply appreciated and greatly needed. Many people in the area will be eligible for some type of FDA (Federal Disaster Aid), but as you can know, with all the red tape involved, can take months to get and this money is greatly needed now. Besides the National Humane Assoc and the WWF, this is the only cause that gets any of my money. I am just a normal everyday person like you, and I am a single parent and know times are hard. If I don't have money to send, I find it somehow, somewhere as this is something that I deeply believe in. I love the Sanctuary and have adopted several of the animals, and really feel like they are part of my family. So I encourage you to please check out the site and feel free to ask them any questions you may have. I do hope to have pictures up soon of some of the damage that was sustained during this record breaking Hurricane.

Naples Florida

This picture was taken by a viewer and sent in to a local tv station in Miami the day before Hurricane Wilma struck Southern Florida. This was one of the worst hurricanes ever for the state and did more damage widespread than the previous Katrina.

Black and White Lemur

This is just one of the few Black and White Lemurs that you will see also. These are just the cutest animals you have ever seen and they will definitely steal your heart away!

Tundra and Loki

You can tell by looking at my pics who my fav's are, but really I do love them all. I have just always been fascinated by the White Tiger and when I saw Tundra and Loki, I absolutely fell in love with them. Look at this face, how can you not love it?

Loki in the Rain

This pic was taken a week or so ago just after a late afternoon rain shower. The Tigers love the rain and laying in the mud! This is one of the White Tigers that I adopted, Loki. He is such a Big Sweetie and loves posing for the cams!

Baby Ring-Tail

Here's a picture taken from one of the live webcams that the site has to offer. This is in the Ringtails habitat and here is a picture of the newest member, a baby that was born only almost 2 mos ago. What a cutie!

Sampson

What a beauty! This is Sampson, the male African Leopard who calls the sanctuary home also.
