Hurricane Wilma

By now you all know of Hurricane Wilma that struck Southern Florida on Monday of this week and you have seen pictures of the damage and devastation that was done. My friends at Tigerhomes Sanctuary suffered major damage as well. I hope to have pictures up soon, so please keep checking back with me. This is a privately owned animal sanctuary down in Southern Florida and is home to over 100 animals, including Tigers, Lemurs, Lions, Leopards, and many more. Many of the habitats were destroyed and the landscaping has been majorly destroyed. The person who owns this place has put his heart, soul, and his whole life into this place and always puts the animals needs above his own. He works several jobs just to keep the place running and of course, from donations from people like you and me. His grounds were damaged during Katrina and he had been rebuilding and replanting since then and still had lots of work to do, so when Hurricane Wilma hit, this was the last thing he needed. The sanctuary is located out in a rural area, so they are being told that it may be Mid-November or later before their power is restored and this really doesn't help matters any. What I am doing is helping raise donations for this Sanctuary and for the animals and the owner. This man is one of the greatest and most caring individuals I have ever come across and I really would not be helping him if I did think it was a worthy cause. I encourage anyone reading this to check out the website for Tigerhomes at www.tigerhomes.org . They have multiple webcams, which are down for now and may be for some time due to hurricane damage, but there are many other pages you can visit such as the educational pages, the webviewer gallery and they have a forum that is open to discussion on the many animal issues that are out there. There is a page where you can go to make secure donations or they even accept checks and money orders. I encourage you to check out this site and please send a donation, whether it be $5 or $500, every bit is deeply appreciated and greatly needed. Many people in the area will be eligible for some type of FDA (Federal Disaster Aid), but as you can know, with all the red tape involved, can take months to get and this money is greatly needed now. Besides the National Humane Assoc and the WWF, this is the only cause that gets any of my money. I am just a normal everyday person like you, and I am a single parent and know times are hard. If I don't have money to send, I find it somehow, somewhere as this is something that I deeply believe in. I love the Sanctuary and have adopted several of the animals, and really feel like they are part of my family. So I encourage you to please check out the site and feel free to ask them any questions you may have. I do hope to have pictures up soon of some of the damage that was sustained during this record breaking Hurricane.
